Cover Me on Friday: The Foxglove Hunt cover Psychedelic Furs "Love My Way"

The Foxglove Hunt - Love My Way (mp3 for previewing via zShare)

The Foxglove Hunt (Phoenix, Arizona) on MySpace

New full length from Rob Withem, (former frontman of Fine China) and Ronnie Martin (Joy Electric). This is pop music. Like it or be crazy. "Stop Heartbeat" available from cdbaby and Velvet Blue Music and A Different Drum. Also on iTunes.

There's an army
On the dance floor
It's a fashion
With a gun my love
In a room
Without a door
A kiss is not enough
Love my way
It's a new road
I follow where
My mind goes
They'd put us
On a railroad
They'd dearly
Make us pay
For laughing
In their faces
And making it our way
There's emptiness
Behind their eyes
There's dust
In all their hearts
They just want to
Steal us all
And take us all apart
But not in
Love my way
It's a new road
I follow where
My mind goes
So swallow
All your tears my love
And put on
Your new face
You can never win or lose
If you don't
Run the race

And, speaking of Joy Electric:
"My Grandfather, the Cubist" OUT TODAY.

Buy it before next Tuesday!

We want to thank everybody for their ongoing support over the years and ask that you would continue that support by purchasing the new album THIS WEEK! Why this week? Because first week sales go a long way towards establishing a good base for a release like "...Cubist".

A Different Drum has Gentle Touch available

I love this CD and you really must order it!
This from Todd's weekly electronic pop music store newsletter:
Gentle Touch "In Memory of Savannah" $18 -- This is a really nice import release, harking back to the 90's synthpop sound that came out of Sweden with some of the underground bands like Vision System, Kiethevez, etc. where there are some Depeche Mode influences, but with a simple, uncrowded approach. I really like a couple of the songs on this album for the sheer mood. I've added one of those songs to the pop-up player at www.adifferentdrum. com/Player The songs take their time to develop and build, which you can hear if you watch a video for one of the songs here: com/watch? v=cW1UN1ZpdW0

I Miss My Wife

Mark and Christina H. at my wedding
We had Ride's "Vapour Trail" played live at our wedding, by husband and wife Mark and Christina H. of Starcrossed.

Songs for happy robots to dance to

Arthur and Martha
made my night. I am trying to complete my 10th popcast, but the whole thing sounds too familiar. I think I will use Arthur and Martha's "Autovia" to tie the show together. This is music for fans of Ladytron or Stereolab.

Matinée Recordings News for May 2008

Matinée Recordings are simply flooded in brilliant new music so stay tuned for announcements of some smashing forthcoming releases:
In the near term that includes a new EP plus debut album from Scotland’s Bubblegum Lemonade, that album we’ve promised from Sweden’s The Electric Pop Group, the third album from Australia’s The Guild League, another EP plus debut album from Denmark’s Northern Portrait, a new EP from Scotland’s Strawberry Whiplash, our third full length release from England’s Would-Be-Goods, and (fingers crossed) a new release from England’s Keris Howard (Harper Lee/Brighter). See what I mean? New music from The Hermit Crabs, The Lucksmiths, and Math and Physics Club are on the agenda too which should make that smile even bigger.

Saudade - Todd from A Different Drum label

I only recently stumbled upon this. Todd Durrant, the man behind the world's best synthpop / electronic pop label, A Different Drum has a music project named Saudade.
I thought it was funny / ironic to see his myspace page lists his band as "unsigned". Can't he sign himself?

Cover Me On Friday: Coldplay - Lips Like Sugar

It's a straight-forward cover, no real changes. The vocals even sound close to Ian McCulloch! Only thing off is the pronunciation of "river". The track was recorded live, so you've gotta wonder how this'd go in-studio.
Also of note, this is the first time I have referenced this song since I created this blog and podcast / netcast / popcast. So, here it goes, the words I have not used until now: Echo and The Bunnymen.

The Cure to Release Singles on the 13th of ea. mo.

The Cure have unveiled their plans to release four A & B side singles, one each month starting May 13th, leading up to the release of their thirteenth studio album, as yet untitled (?), which will be out on Suretone/Geffen Records September 13th. It will be the band's first album of new music since 2004’s self titled album The Cure. Physical and digital singles will be available for purchase in store and on all digital partners.

Why the 13th of each month? The forthcoming album is The Cure’s thirteenth studio album... A lucky number indeed!

First single “The Only One” (released May 13th) includes the b-side “NY Trip”; second single “Freakshow” (released June 13th) includes the b-side "All Kinds Of Stuff"; neither b-side will appear on the album. Both tracks were produced by Robert Smith and Keith Uddin. July 13th and August 13th singles will be announced shortly...
The band is currently gearing up for a U.S. tour, kicking off May 9th. 65daysofstatic will open on all dates.
The Cure line-up comprises longtime members bass player Simon Gallup, drummer Jason Cooper and, back in the band for a third time, guitarist Porl Thompson!
